Vietnam-made electric buses hit the road in South Korea: The quiet mark of a steel structure enterprise.

This June, the summer heat rises with pride as Vietnam-made electric buses officially roll out on the streets of South Korea — one of the world’s leading automotive powerhouses. This milestone marks a major leap forward for Kim Long Motor Hue Joint Stock Company (Kim Long Motor), and more broadly, a proud moment in the journey of Vietnamese businesses taking Vietnamese brands to the global stage. Behind this success story is the vital contribution of Dai Dung Group – a leading Vietnamese enterprise in steel structure and mechanical engineering. The partnership highlights how the combined strength of top domestic brands is helping to boost Vietnam’s national competitiveness on the international playing field.

An overview of the Kim Long Motor factory in Hue

In Phase 1 of the Kim Long electric bus factory project in Hue, Dai Dung Group was responsible for up to 80% of the project’s primary steel structure, equivalent to 12,364 tons of steel and 214,700 square meters of roofing sheets.

Dai Dung Group’s role went far beyond construction. The company was involved from the technical design stage, contributing structural solutions for complex areas of the facility, the project was designed and built in compliance with two leading U.S. technical standards: AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) – ensuring optimized steel structure design, load-bearing capacity, material efficiency, and construction precision; and ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) – covering the building’s overall structural performance under harsh environmental conditions such as strong winds and heavy rain, which are especially relevant to Hue’s climate. The dual application of these internationally recognized standards not only met the strict requirements of the investor but also demonstrated Dai Dung Group’s commitment to delivering projects that meet global benchmarks in safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

The project was designed and constructed in accordance with U.S. standards AISC and ASCE

The project was carried out in an area with distinct weather conditions – characterized by year-round heavy rainfall. Despite this, Dai Dung Group proactively accelerated the construction schedule by deploying multiple teams and flexibly organizing hundreds of engineers and workers on-site. Completing 80% of the workload in just over 18 months is a clear testament to the company’s strong capabilities in project organization, management, and construction execution.

With over 30 years of experience, Dai Dung Group has delivered thousands of projects across 60 countries and territories – ranging from industrial factories to transport infrastructure and energy facilities. Its modern manufacturing system, skilled engineering team, and proven track record have made the company a strategic partner in many large-scale and high-impact projects, both in Vietnam and internationally.

The Kim Long project marks a concrete step forward in that journey. As Kim Long Motor signs a contract to export 200 electric buses per year to South Korea, Dai Dung Group’s role goes beyond construction – contributing to the foundation of a competitive “Made in Vietnam” manufacturing value chain on the global stage. This success also positions the company as a strong candidate for Phase 2 of the project.

As Vietnam advances its strategy to export high-value technologies and products, companies like Kim Long Motor and Dai Dung Group form the solid foundation needed to elevate the Vietnamese brand on the global industrial map — not through slogans, but through real capabilities and measurable results.
