Railway Construction: Concept, Role & DaiDung Group’s Position

Railway construction is one of the key factors creating a modern transportation system, connecting regions, and promoting socio-economic development. So, what exactly is railway construction? What components does it comprise, and what role does it play in modern life?

Let’s delve into the details in the article below, and at the same time, explore the prominent role of DaiDung Group in this field.

What is Railway Construction?

According to Vietnam’s Railway Law, works belonging to the railway system are understood as construction items directly supporting the operation of railway transportation.

These items include railway tracks, bridges, tunnels, culverts, embankments, retaining walls, train stations, depot areas, drainage infrastructure, signal and communication systems, power supply networks, and other related supporting equipment.

Components of Railway Construction

  • Railway Tracks: Consist of two parallel steel rails, laid on a load-bearing foundation (sleepers) to ensure high load capacity and stability for train operation.
  • Bridges, Culverts, Tunnels, Embankments, Retaining Walls: These are structures designed to overcome obstacles, ensuring smooth and safe railway lines.
  • Stations, Depots: Places for trains to stop, pick up and drop off passengers, load and unload goods, and for maintenance and repair of railway vehicles.
  • Information, Signal, and Power Supply Systems: Ensure safe and smooth operation, especially crucial for urban railways and high-speed railways.
  • Auxiliary Equipment: Includes drainage systems, fixed signaling, and other ancillary works.

The Role of Railway Construction in Modern Life

Driving Force for Socio-Economic Development

  • Large Volume Transportation, Low Cost: Railways have the capacity to transport large volumes of goods and passengers at a much lower cost compared to other modes of transport, especially effective on long routes such as North-South.
  • Safety, Stability: Railway transport boasts a high level of safety and is less affected by weather or traffic congestion compared to road transport.
  • Promoting Urban Development: Railway lines, especially urban railways, contribute to changing the urban landscape, forming satellite urban areas around stations, and promoting regional economic development.
  • Synchronizing Transportation Systems: Railways connect effectively with other modes of transport such as road, air, and sea, optimizing logistics costs and enhancing national competitiveness.

DaiDung Group: A Leading Partner in Railway Construction

Capacity & Experience

DaiDung Group is Vietnam’s leading provider of professional EPC services in mechanical engineering and steel structure, especially for key national transportation infrastructure projects such as railway systems DaiDung Group has affirmed its position through a series of large-scale projects both domestically and internationally, possessing a solid foundation in materials, technical solutions, and modern construction technology.

DaiDung Group proudly marks its strong impression on many projects through strategic cooperation with Hoa Phat Group, a leading high-quality steel supplier in Vietnam. The combination of DaiDung Group’s strengths in design, production, and erection of steel structures with Hoa Phat’s international-standard steel raw materials has created a solid foundation for key railway construction projects, especially the North-South railway station in Philippines.

Particularly, in the context where the Government is considering assigning key railway projects such as the North-South high-speed railway line to alliances of large corporations, with Vingroup as a typical representative, the role of leading enterprises like DaiDung and Hoa Phat becomes more important than ever. We recognize that the participation of strong alliances in finance, technology, and experience will create a major breakthrough for national transportation infrastructure.

Notable Milestones

DaiDung Group has completed many complex items such as underground stations, depots, and super-heavy, super-long steel structures, meeting international standards. Projects related to transportation and super-heavy, super-long structures demonstrate its capabilities, such as:

  • Metro Depot HCMC: This is a depot project (subway/metro maintenance and storage station) in Ho Chi Minh City. DaiDung Group was responsible for producing and supplying steel structures. This project is directly related to the Metro urban railway infrastructure.

  • North – South Railway Station (NSRP): The North–South Commuter Railway (NSCR) is the largest railway infrastructure in the Philippines, spanning approximately 147 km and serving over 800,000 passengers daily. Operated under strict Japanese standards, DaiDung Group was selected as the main contractor for steel structures and erection solutions for the roofing systems of West Valenzuela, Meycauayan, Marilao, and Bocaue stations. Featuring large-scale, AISC-certified steel structures, the project reflects Dai Dung’s capability to deliver international-standard works and elevate the global standing of Vietnam’s steel industry.

  • Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link Submerged Tunnel: This is the world’s longest submerged tunnel project, designed for both road and rail. It connects the island of Fehmarn (Germany) with the island of Lolland (Denmark) across the Fehmarn Belt strait in the Baltic Sea.

DaiDung Group continuously innovates, applies high technology, and cooperates with international corporations, affirming the position of Vietnamese enterprises on the international stage. It applies international standards such as ASTM of the US, AS of Australia, EN of Europe, or JIS of Japan, while also utilizing modern design and project management software and smart encoding systems like barcodes, QR codes, and RFID to control data and production extremely efficiently.

One of DaiDung Group’s great prides is that our factories have achieved JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) certification, one of Japan’s most stringent industrial standards. This is clear evidence of our production capacity, quality control, and modern management processes, fully meeting the strictest requirements of the international market.

Notably, only steel structure products manufactured at DaiDung Group’s JIS-certified factories are eligible for import and use in projects in Japan. This not only opens up significant export opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises but also affirms DaiDung Group’s position on the global steel structure industry map.

JIS standards also serve as a “passport” for Dai Dung to participate in iconic infrastructure projects in Japan, including the Shinhenden building in Tokyo – a six-story power conversion and distribution substation. This strategic facility plays a vital role in Japan’s railway network, supplying electricity to Shinjuku Station – one of Tokyo’s largest and busiest rail hubs and powering the entire station system. DaiDung Group was selected as the supplier of steel structures for this mission-critical project.

“DaiDung Group: A trusted partner, the number one choice for railway construction and modern transportation infrastructure projects in Vietnam and internationally.”

Railway construction is a crucial foundation for the development of modern transportation, playing a key role in connectivity and socio-economic development. Choosing a reputable and experienced partner like DaiDung Group will ensure the quality, progress, and efficiency of railway projects, aiming for a synchronous, safe, and sustainable transportation system for the future.
