Long Thanh International Airport: Racing to Redefine Vietnam’s Aviation Future

Vietnam’s ambitious Long Thanh International Airport, a cornerstone of the nation’s infrastructure vision, stands as one of Southeast Asia’s most complex and expansive projects. As it charges toward its final stages, the construction site is a hive of activity, with critical components like the passenger terminal, runway, and air traffic control tower taking shape. At the heart of this monumental effort is Đại Dũng Group, supplying and erecting thousands of tons of cutting-edge steel structures. With the Prime Minister’s mandate to wrap up major work by December 31, 2025, Đại Dũng is pulling out all the stops, working round-the-clock to hit this tight deadline.

Since early 2025, the Long Thanh site has been alive with the hum of progress. Thousands of engineers and workers toil day and night, driving the project forward. Recent updates confirm it’s on track, with the passenger terminal now seeing its steel roof structure take form—set to finish by Q3 2025. The terminal’s four-story reinforced concrete framework and roof-supporting columns are already complete. Meanwhile, the air traffic control tower has cleared its rough construction phase and is now fitting steel structures at its peak, eyeing a late April 2025 wrap-up. The T1 and T2 access roads, vital for linking the airport to nearby regions, are slated for technical operation in April 2025.
The Project Management Board reports that site leveling is 100% done, and the terminal’s foundation piling is complete, laying a solid base for what’s next. Drainage systems and internal roads are progressing alongside steel structure installations. By June 2025, major steel components—like the terminal roof and load-bearing framework—should be finalized, clearing the path for technical equipment setup.
Heavy-duty cranes and specialized gear are in full swing, hoisting massive steel components into place.
The steel structures at Long Thanh demand precision and innovation. Advanced techniques ensure safety and longevity, while the use of steel slashes the terminal’s overall weight, boosting its structural strength. The terminal’s column-free design creates wide-open, airy spaces, streamlining operations and elevating the passenger experience.
Building these steel structures is no small feat. Every component must be crafted with pinpoint accuracy to ensure seamless assembly. To tackle this, Đại Dũng has deployed heavy-duty cranes to handle oversized steel pieces, while their factory prefabrication process meets rigorous standards for flawless on-site integration.
Steel structures are the backbone of the project’s bold architectural vision.

The terminal and concourse roof system is a standout feature, with its wide span requiring high-strength materials that blend durability with aesthetic finesse. Installing it is a race against time, as it’s key to finishing the terminal’s interior. The steel beams and framework must align perfectly to guarantee stability.
On track for Phase 1 completion in 2026, Long Thanh International Airport is poised to become a regional aviation powerhouse, fueling Vietnam’s economic and global trade ambitions.
